Outreach
Delivery to Homebound Patrons:
Community volunteers assist our Outreach Librarian
in delivering books, magazines, DVD's, VHS tapes and CD and
cassette audio books to patrons who are unable to use the library
due to short- or long-term illness or disability. In addition,
the Outreach Program brings the library to Huntington Terrace
Independent Living, Melville, and to Sunrise Assisted Living,
Dix Hills. Our Outreach Program also provides on-site library
service to seniors at Paumanack Villages V and VI in Melville.
At the Library:
- At our Dix Hills branch:
- visually and learning disabled patrons
may use our ZoomText-equipped Internet and word processing
computer which magnifies and speaks.
- try our newly upgraded Merlin magnifier/reader.
- a Kurzweil Reader is available for magnification
of reading materials.
- we have a Listening Station for CD's
and audiocassettes, for use with music or audiobooks.
Use our headphones, or bring your own.
- Through our interloan program, patrons with
visual disabilities may borrow videos which feature full narrative
descriptions.
- Both library buildings provide access and
accommodation for individuals who are physically challenged.
