Black and white image of a Fire Truck

Here’s an old one from the Melville Fire Department.  Can anyone identify the background?

Comments from Our Community:

Corner of Hill and East Street. There used to be a Barber Shop there, regular boys haircut, 5 cents!

Black and white image of firefighters during flooding in the early 1950s

It looks like some terrible flooding took place in Melville – does anyone remember details?

Another picture: Rollingwood area around 1952. Possibly in the area of Suydam Dr. and Jenkins Place, Melville. American-LaFrance and Mack pumpers.

This is Bill Thomas’ Blacksmith Shop. It was at what is now Rt. 110 and Old Country Rd but was torn down when Rt. 110 was put in.

Black and white photo of the Melville Fire Dept. Annual Picnic in 1948

Comments from Our Community:

The Melville Volunteer Fire Company’s first firetrucks. A 1925 and a 1926 American-LaFrance pumpers purchased used from the Huntington Fire Department for $101 each. They are pictured at what was once the annual fire department fair.

I’d love to know what ever happened to them!

The fire department still had its annual fair when I was growing up in the ’50s and ’60s.

Comments from Our Community:

This is a 1941 Packard Amulance in probably a Memorial Day Parade on New York Avenue near Nassau Rd., Huntington Station.

Due to a tragic accident, it was the first ambulance purchased by The Melville Volunteer Fire Company.
